The Next Next Is Here

My friend took me to see a show at The Echoplex last night. It was AG Cook and Sophie from London, along with QT. Say the letters again, qt, qt, cutie. Being a former SE5 8QW resident, I drank a bunch of coffee and got my ass out the door on a Friday night and I’m sure happy I did.

Forever people kept asking: what’ll happen after drum and bass, after dubstep, after trillwave even? PC Music is it– where AG Cook “produces people who aren’t even normally musicians and treats them like major label stars”- because why not? It’s DIY and people have taken a lot of notice. It’s how things should be.

The sets I saw were like all my disparate favorites blended together plus other stuff like house music. You’ve got hilariously absurd 90s twee-like vocals about things like “lemonade” and “kitty cats” to heavy, heavy bass lines from the darkest corners of places like The Ram Trilogy, a touch of stuff like Dieselboy- remember all that? And of course hints of Goldie and Metalheads- stuff you could see at The 333 Club on Old Street back in the day. It’s a rigamarole of sexy vocals and seemingly drug-induced cuts and drops.

You can watch videos of their stuff online, but nothing compares to seeing them live. Here’s a little taste of that.

Here’s an awesome remix they did –>

What’re your predictions for the future of music?
